IMPORTANT UPDATE:
After much deliberation, we have decided to cancel Bad Medicine Ride 2023.
The original purpose of the event was to bring more biking related activity to Shell Valley throughout the season. The one day event has been incredible fun but has not resulted in additional year0round activity as we hoped.
We still feel strongly about the potential of Shell Valley and how outdoor recreation supports an incredible quality of life. We will be directing our efforts into other opportunities to accomplish the mission.
Thank you to everyone for the last 4 years, it’s been a great ride! We’ll see you on the trail in other ways.
Race, ride or tour through some of the most epic, seldom-traveled roads and trails the west has to offer.
Multiple course lengths will challenge elite athletes and casual riders alike.
Courses will travel through magnificent landscapes you didn’t know existed: Red Gulch, Devils Leap, The W, Alkali Scenic Back Country Byway, Red Basin, Cold Springs, Spanish Point, Medicine Lodge, Needle Rock and more.
After all that Bad Medicine, kick back and join post-race block party in downtown Shell.

4 Course Lengths:
Long
90 miles
Feeling tough? Training all summer? Good. 9800′ elevation gain is the biggest dose of Bad Medicine.
Medium
56 miles
Not quite as intense as the long course but you’ll need grit to conquer 6200′ elevation gain.
Short +
32 miles
NEW ROUTE FOR 2022!
The same spicy start as the Long and Medium but a shorter distance.
Short
25 miles
Smaller dose of Bad Medicine with big bragging rights.
The Bad Medicine Ride is supported with Aid stations at regular intervals throughout each course.
Post Race Party!
Racers, friends and community come together for a great post-race party outside the historic Shell store in “downtown” Shell.
Live music, cold beer by Ten Sleep Brewing Co, lawn games, hot food and good times.
